2020 has proven to be a challenging year for many. It is great to learn how innovative ways are being pursued even under these extraordinary circumstances.

A striking example of this, is the annual conference of the German Council of Shopping Centres (GCSC), which took place last week. The GCSC conference reinvented itself with a multichannel event, which took place physically in Hamburg, Berlin and Düsseldorf and at the same time could be followed via a live stream online.

Live panel discussions where held in each of the cities and additional interviews and panellists joined in live online. This way, the GCSC was able to unite its members even in times of constraints and to produce great content with industry experts as panellists and keynote speakers.

Theme:

  • Break: what do we have to break with and what should be reassessed?
  • Shake: what do we have to change?
  • Take: what do we take forward with us and what do we do new?

Our team from Multi Germany, that attended the event in Düsseldorf, were truly impressed by the speakers of great calibre and the insights they shared with their audience.

To hear from retailers and entrepreneurs how they manage COVID-19 – and also how it is a time for them to reinvent their businesses was very encouraging and motivating,” says Philip Bähr, Head of Leasing Multi Germany.

The conference, which is a highlight every year for the industry, managed to even exceed our expectations this year. The panel discussions were future and innovation focused and it showed that many of us see this pandemic as a chance for innovation. Once again, a big applause to the team of the GCSC for their efforts and commitment to make this new format possible,” adds Hubert Stech, Managing Director Multi Germany and Benelux.
