Armazéns do Chiado
Lisboa, Portugal
Description
Armazéns do Chiado is a small and intimate shopping centre in the historical heart of Lisbon. The centre is located in the former Grandes Armazéns do Chiado, a famous, elegant store that was destroyed in the fire that struck the centre of Lisbon in 1988. The new Armazéns do Chiado has recovered some of that aura of the past. This stylish shopping complex – built behind the listed façade – was designed to underpin the growing urbanisation and modernisation of the city. Opened in 1999, the centre spans six floors with 55 specialty stores, cafes and restaurants, together with an elegant dining space offering a fantastic view across the city centre and Chiado. Armazéns do Chiado has become the ‘Lisbon meeting point’ for local residents and the millions of visitors to the city, for both cultural and promotional events, and represents the contemporary shopping standard for the Chiado and Baixa districts.
